An exploration into evolutionary models for non-routine design

چکیده

Non-routine design is characterized by the lack of knowledge regarding the relationships between the given requirements and the form required to satisfy those requirements. Thus a knowledge-lean methodology as characterized by evolutionary models seems suitable for non-routine design. However, evolutionary methods to date as characterized by Genetic Algorithms (GAs) have been developed mainly for optimization and machine learning. This paper explores some of the issues involved in the use of evolutionary models as computational models in non-routine design.

OPTIMAL DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE ONE-WAY RIBBED SLABS USING IMPROVED TIME EVOLUTIONARY OPTIMIZATION

In this paper, a new robust metaheuristic optimization algorithm called improved time evolutionary optimization (ITEO) is applied to design reinforced concrete one-way ribbed slabs. Geometric and strength characteristics of concrete slabs are considered as design variables. The optimal design is such that in addition to achieving the minimum cost, all design constraints are satisfied under Amer...

Solving ‎‎‎Multi-objective Optimal Control Problems of chemical ‎processes ‎using ‎Hybrid ‎Evolutionary ‎Algorithm

Evolutionary algorithms have been recognized to be suitable for extracting approximate solutions of multi-objective problems because of their capability to evolve a set of non-dominated solutions distributed along the Pareto frontier‎. ‎This paper applies an evolutionary optimization scheme‎, ‎inspired by Multi-objective Invasive Weed Optimization (MOIWO) and Non-dominated Sorting (NS) strategi...

Applying evolutionary optimization on the airfoil design

In this paper, lift and drag coefficients were numerically investigated using NUMECA software in a set of 4-digit NACA airfoils. Two metamodels based on the evolved group method of data handling (GMDH) type neural networks were then obtained for modeling both lift coefficient (CL) and drag coefficient (CD) with respect to the geometrical design parameters. After using such obtained polynomial n...

An Exploration - Based Evolutionary Model of aGenerative Design Process

An exploration-based generative model of design is proposed. Shape grammars are used as a framework for the knowledge representation within this model. The routine design problem over the state space generated using a xed shape grammar and the creative design problem over the extended state space generated by using an extended shape grammar-the family of shape grammars which includes the origin...
